Bogibeel Indias Longest Railroad Bridge,  Our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s largest railroad bridge on the Brahmaputra river in Dibrugarh district of Assam today. Modi will inaugurate the 4.94-km long bridge by cutting lace in Dibrugarh and travel to the bridge. He will also address a public meeting at Dhimaji, located on the other end of the bridge. It took more than two decades to complete the bridge. Built on a double line along the BG (big line) track and three lanes of the road, this bridge will be a lifeline for most of the country’s northeast. It will be helpful in connecting between the north and south coast of the Brahmaputra river in the eastern region of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

This Bogibeel bridge has been a part of the Assam Accord and it was recommended in 1997-98. This bridge can also play a special role in defense services on the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda laid the foundation of this bridge on January 22, 1997. But the work on it began on April 21, 2002, in the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government. Due to excessive delays in the project, its cost increased 85 percent. Initially, its cost was Rs 3230.02 crores which increased to Rs 5,960 crores. Meanwhile, the length of the bridge has also been increased from the earlier 4.31 kilometers to 4.94 kilometers. Considering the strategic importance of the project, the Central Government declared the construction of this bridge as a national project in 2007. Since this step, the availability of funds has increased and the speed of work has increased.

Officials said that this will greatly reduce the disadvantages of people living on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river, but defense requirements have also played an important role while approving its structure and its design. A defense source said, “This bridge will increase the national security of the eastern region by providing fast movement of defense forces and their equipment. It was constructed in such a way that a fighter aircraft could be taken in the emergency. ‘ Finally, this inauguration is made on the eve of Christmas celebrations, It’s a gift for us to celebrate this occasion especially the north-eastern parts of India Assam & Arunachal Pradesh for whom this is a boon which reduces there journey duration with the Bogibeel Indias Longest Railroad Bridge.
